All the ways the 'Y' chromosome can be confusing to the 'X'

Recently I have noticed that most boys flirt just for the sake of flirting. So here I sit completely confused because I can never figure out what a guy really thinks. And over analyzing situations is one of my best talents.....
(sorry if you're one of my guy friends and i'm using something you said as an example... know that i am talking about all of your gender and not just you. :D)

they say things that overly complimentary like, "i think you're smokin' hott!" or "you have the prettiest big blue eyes i've ever seen." or (from a poem received), "we'll work on this friendship and see where it goes." or (my personal favorite) "you twirl at a great equilibrium."
although i'm not entirely certain what this last one means, i'm pretty sure that all of the above can be taken differently. And of course, over analyzed to the extreme.

they can also be extra flirty by adding things like "a woman after my own heart", "mornin' sunshine.", "i think you dance really cute." or "we might need to save that for the 8th date."

if a guy said any of these things to you what on earth are you supposed to think? That they just want to be your friend?

So then if you finally get up the nerve to tell them that they are confusing and they ask "why?". Oh, no problem, i'll just confess to you that i think you're a flirt and here is their responses- "is it kind of a turn on?", "does it make me more mysterious?" "so, you like it?" "i kind of am."
no answer that in return helps the girl know where she stands. gee whiz.
so then you think about every word individually (dramatized, obviously...) and come up with a wide array of options for what they could mean. Ranging from a-they must like you cause why would they ask you if you liked it if they didn't? b-they don't like me because they would just tell me if they did. c- they may or may not like me. or (my personal favorite) d- they're probably gay because they used the word mysterious. (JOKE!... haha)

They tell you weird stories or say weird things and act like they are cool for doing it like they are showing off to impress us. But when in reality it is not a flattering thing. So while we sit and wonder why a boy told us about his obsession with Justin Bieber we might think, "cute! he's trying to impress us." or "why the heck would he think loving Justin Bieber is a cool thing?" or "what was the point to that story?..."

when they ask you to do something they never ever call it a date. EVER. i've gotten- "can I steal you right now?" "wanna watch a movie?" "wanna hang out?" "what are you doing right now?" but extremely (never) rare is "will you go on a date with me?..." I mean it's EIGHT words long. It's not like studying for a test people!

so then someone asks, "well was it a date?" and my answer is always, "i'm not entirely sure." because i am rarely entirely sure if it's a date or not.

or they will text you and ask you to do something. Which is even less date-like. And then you are borderline saying no because he can't even call you.

I'm sure there are about a million other ways that they are confusing like- winking, tickling, back rubbing, pushing, grinning, teasing, etc.

Boys are a very confusing gender. The funny thing is that girls just want to know what they think. They just don't ever give up their feelings like we do. So here we are completely vulnerable because we pour our hearts (so to speak) out and then we get an, "o, okay." or a "does this make me more mysterious?" type answer.

i think by the time i'm done with dating and college i'll be a pro at analyzing boys. i'll just never quite understand why they do the things they do.

SO not happening

This is all my i have to say about blind date #1.
ummm...... not my vision of a cowboy. He swore. He never opened the door for me. (in fact, when i droped me off he just stopped the car. i got out and he started driving away before i had time to shut the door) He parked his motorcycle in his living room. I told him i got burnt from a motorcycle when i was little on my thigh. He wanted me to show it to him. ummm.. HECK NO! He made his grandma pay for the parking tickets he got while driving her car. He had huge holes in his jeans that you could see his garments. He was kinda rude and called me scum. literally. not kidding. I have bad luck with guys.
okay, i'm done venting.

on the bright side Ashley's date was really cute with her. he taught her how to play the guitar and took her out on a deserted road and in his camero drove about 120 MPH! I'm glad they had fun.

At least i have more things to add to my list of things i'm not looking for in a guy right?

7 couples, 1 great dance, and a whole lot of leftovers!

A week ago my roommate Melissa got a bee in her bonnet to go to the institute dance. I was indifferent to the idea. sounded fun but i kinda lack in the department of how many guys i know and lack even more in the area of asking them out. Well one thing led to another and baddabing baddaboom we all got dates. I went with a guy in my ward named Andrew. He lives in the same building right behind me. He and his roommates all play musical instruments and we get serenaded and free concerts all the time. it's great! And i'm not even being sarcastic. I didn't really know him that well, but i don't really know any guys that well up here so it was fine.
(me making pies)

After we all had a date lined up we came up with what we wanted to make for dinner. We went to Walmart and spent 2 hours shopping for food. But we got a new fruit- a pear apple. so it was fine.

and we got to try on freakin' awesome christmas sweaters!

yesterday at around 4 we started cooking. I was nearly done with the mint pie filling and i was stirring it on the stove in a plastic bowl. no one was using the stove so i thought it was no big deal. But Betsy decided to start cooking the chicken and turned on the stove. needless to say..... the bowl didn't make it. and the pie filling barely survived. it was actually hilarious. good thing i have cat like reflexes and grabbed the bowl and held it over a different bowl before it all leaked out. cooking took FOREVER! i've never cooked for 14 people before. we all had different jobs and then everyone but melissa and i went to get our dates.... but we still had a lot to do. so dinner started a half an hour later but it actually worked out just fine. I think everyone liked dinner. i thought it tasted magnificent. We kinda over estimated how much guys eat. All i know is that my one brother can shovel it down like none other and figured all other guys could too.... but no one ate that much last night..... so now we have like a good 1/3 of the food left in our fridge. But at least we don't have to cook for the next week. lol. :P

Dinner was really fun. We all talked and i got to know all of the people there better. Andrew is really funny! I could kinda tell from the previous conversations i had but i didn't get the full effect.

you know how i can't dance?.... like how i am so uncoordinated in dancing. Well good news! i'm getting better! Not kidding either! I still probably look ridiculous.... but i am not as awkward looking. the dance was fun. i learned how to cha cha, and a disco dance too! It was the best dance i've been to. the music and the people.
couple awards-

Betsy and josh (above) tied with Ashley and Nate (below)for cutest couple! :D :D :D :D :D they seriously looked like they were having a ball! It was fun to watch them.

lauren and trevor win the funniest couple. I just love them. :D

anna and brian get the "most accident prone" award. surprisingly anna didn't get hurt but i think Brian broke his face off trying to do a backflip. poor kid.

Mike and McKenna win the newest friends/ blind date success award. p.s. aren't they adorable together?

Blake and Melissa get the all around cool award. Cause they were good at everything.

I'm not sure what we would get. we'd get best dancers if i could dance... but i can't. so he wins that. Any ideas? I had fun! it was great!

after the dance we played a good game of BS. i won second place. :D
Last night was so awesome!

Feeling better about all things life

Have you ever had a dream where you woke up with tears rolling down your face?! I experienced it for the first time this morning. it was weird. I am not sharing said dream but i will tell you almost this exact even happened today and i am so grateful that i had this experience because it prepared me for what exactly i needed to do today. Boy am i glad i did. I finally let my feelings out today and let everything go and i now know i will be able to get over this fully.
I am SO glad that i had this experience even though it was super hard for me. I have learned a lot about myself and even more about how i want to live my life and the type of person i want to share it with. I am surprisingly not upset anymore. i don't know why but i honestly feel by saying everything i've been wanting to say has allowed me to move on.
I feel free of heartache now and honestly don't have hard feelings for him anymore. I know i will get through this.
Prayer is my best friend and i am so grateful for the gospel in my life.
I love Logan. I love fall and the leaves that are changing colors! I can't wait to (in a way) start fresh up here and to have said situation from a couple posts ago off my mind.
I hope there aren't hard feelings from the other side because that wasn't my plan. i doubt you read my blog, but if you do, i'm sorry. thank you for the experience and the great person you were in my life. :D

story time- it's a funny story time. I haven't told you much about my roommates but my roommate Anna is completely accident prone. she has more problems staying safe and unscathed than anyone i have ever met in my life. she has had an iron fall on her foot, knocked the fire extinguisher off the wall (even the HUGE screw holding it to the wall), fallen over simply walking across the street, falling into a swimming pool, being chucked into cement, and tonight she got punched in the face/eye during FHE.... i wasn't in the same game group as her so i didn't see it happen but i wish i would have been! they were playing spoons. SPOONS! how the heck does that happen?! ah ha! anyway some kid punched her in the face grabbing a spoon.... poor girl. she has a nice black eye and acted loopy tonight after it. i hope she didn't get a concussion from it....

Loves and hugs,
-Brianna

First Love?

Have you heard the saying you never fully get over your first love? I thought it was ridiculous.... That is until i experience it for myself. It didn't end because anything was necessarily wrong. at least in my point of view. He didn't have time and distance played a part.

I was doing pretty good at trying to get over it. Slowly. VERY slowly. Yesterday so many things reminded me of him. I didn't know why because i hadn't thought too hard about it in a good 2 weeks. and then, BOOM. Picture. of him and another girl. all huggy and cuddly. right before i went to bed. for real? Was it that easy for him to get over me? It's been less than a month. He said he loved me. did he really? Was it fake? Was he leading me on? It's not easy on me to get over this because i sincerely cared about him. and still do. And i think in a lot of ways i ALWAYS will. My heart broke all over again when i saw it.

I absolutely loved the feeling i had when things were going good. I've never experienced something so awesome and i never wanted it to go away. But is the feeling worth it when all he's good for now is a lot of heartache? I trusted him -which is a hard thing for me to do with guys because of past experiences. And he knew that. He knew. We talked about it. and it didn't change what happened. I just don't understand why I ever trusted him in the first place. or any guy for that matter when all i do is get hurt by it.
I know i'm only 18, but it was real to me. Boys are so dumb!

Is it really better to love and lost than it is to never have loved at all? I don't know. i'm still trying to figure it out. the way i feel now sucks. But i loved how i felt before.
How do you get over something like this? everyone keeps saying time. but it doesn't seem to be getting much better. :(

this one time.....

so in college i have a lot of "this one time" i...... you fill in the blank (cause i probably have done it).
college is full of doing things that are weird events....or random things.....or even dumb things....or just plain firsts.
in honor of this i will now blog about a few.....

so this one time.... betsy and i went grocery shopping at 11:30 at night. and we also had to walk across a wood plank that could have easily broken under our weight sailing us into the dreaded canal. (which was probably only 4-4.25 inches deep) i'm not kidding you! This is NOT a joke. We could have walked around the canal, but it would have taken at least 3 minutes longer to do. And when you are carrying groceries (including a gigantic gallon of COLD milk) 3 minutes seems like half an eternity. but luckily we have really good balance and didn't fall into the nasty slimy canal.

also
this one time..... we didn't fall through the ceiling while trying to get into the attic.... 'nuff said.

this one time..... we beat the socks off of BYU!!!!!! (which is a first in 17 years!!!!!) and we rushed the field and partied like it was 1999. (by going grocery shopping cause no one showed up to the after game party... which i still don't understand why)

this one time...... i made a birthday cake in the shape of lips. why you may ask? i'll answer with a question to you- WHY NOT?!

also this one time i FINALLY got to go home for conference! And i found several things- 1 that Quinton has seriously grown up! like he's gotten at least 2 inches taller and his shoulders are getting so dang broad! gee whiz it's weird how much he's changed in only 5 or so weeks. 2- mom's still a fantastic cook. i enjoyed really good home-cooked meals that probably made me gain back 2 of the 10 ish pounds i've lost since starting school. But it was worth it. And i even ate veggies (which are a non existent thing in most of my meals. 3-that i sincerely missed being at home and laughing at old memories until my sides hurt, playing BS with the fam, my grumpy dog, shopping with my sisters, and just my house. (even though my room has emilie's stamp on it now. :(

this one time i did what i know to be the right thing. and it was absolutely ridiculously hard. And i cried and probably had swollen, blud-shot eyes for 2 days straight. I think if i would have known how hard it would be before i did it, i wouldn't have done it. So it's good i didn't know because i got the reassurance that i needed during Lawrence's conference talk. But it doesn't make it any easier.... well, at least not that much easier.

this one time i made some mean jumbalaya!! and everyone thought it tasted good. :D cause it did. And i savored it (actually it was gone in like 5 minutes) but still...

these one times i had the weirdest conversations abut things that i never ever needed to know.

anyways, that's some of college. I really enjoy my sleep, TV dinners, conversations with people from home, and have learned even more about trusting the spirit and relying on prayer and knowing even more that the gospel is true and that missions are of utmost importance especially to young men.

it's now past my bed time (okay it's actually before i usually go to bed, but it would be a good thing to get to bed before midnight occasionally right?...)
